Prevocational doctors aspiring to a career in surgery will seek information, career advice and guidance from colleagues, contacts and others with experience of the surgical profession.  Surgical mentors may not work directly with the doctor or be part of his/her clinical environment, but can be instrumental in how the doctor’s career in surgery progresses and develops.
